Sydney Writers’ Festival 2011


The 2011 Sydney Writers’ Festival will be on from 15-21 May 2011 with events happening in venues all over Sydney. Although Sydney Writers’ Festival’s main precinct is at Walsh Bay, events will also held at venues throughout the city, and in suburban Sydney including Parramatta, Bankstown, Blacktown, Cambelltown and regional NSW. Hoorah!


The festival will showcase some of the world’s finest poets, novelists and authors ranging in different programs/genres//locations including autor talks, conversations, launches, panels, performances, readings, school days and workshops.


If your are in the City CBD, check out The Chaser‘s Empty Vessel or FBI Radio’s power trip or captivating an evening with Ingrid Betancourt as she recounts how she survived six terror-filled years as a hostage in the Colombian jungle.

Beauty in the ‘burbs

1pm to 2pm, Wenesday 18 May 2011

Join in the conversation with Louise Hawson, as she decided to embark on a mission to explore and photograph a different Sydney suburb every week for a year, resulting in book and blog titled ‘52 Suburbs.’


If you are from the West, the Parramatta Riverside Theatres will be hosting a range of intriguing events in celebration of the festival including:
Primary School Days

9.40am to 2.30pm, Wednesday 18 May 2011
A celebration of books and writing for students aged eight years and over, with Deborah Abela, Morris Gleitzman, Richard Newsome, Garth Nix and Sean Williams. Tickets $20.



7pm to 8pm, Friday 20 May 2011
Join world famous storyteller and poet Rives, well known for his TV appearances on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, in this special performance. Free to attend but bookings are essential.


Eyes on the Prize

7.30pm to 9pm, Friday 20 May 2011
Join winners of the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize Regional Awards for best book and best first book and gather for a literary extravaganza. Tickets $10.


Struggle Without Hate

11am to 12noon, Saturday 21 May 2011
Palestinian doctor, Izzeldin Abuelasish will present an inspirational talk about his real life struggle in Gaza and reveals the liberating power of a call for peace in a time of deep personal grief. Tickets $10.
