Parramasala 2012 | 8 – 11 November

Parramasala fever is in the air! If you’ve missed it in its previous years, grab your mates and head down to Parramatta over the next couple of days to see the international contemporary arts festival unfold. The festival celebrates the global impact of South Asian arts and cultures. Vibrant arts and entertainment including music, dance, theatre, comedy, film, markets and visual arts from around the world will make Parramatta come alive!

Workshop: Tasting India with Christine Manfield

In this special workshop for Parramasala, Christine will demonstrate two vegetarian dishes from her book Tasting India: Tamarind Eggplant and Beetroot Pachadi.

Workshop: Bollywood Dancing

Come and learn the various styles of Bollywood Dancing with Maxine Simmons of ‘Road2Bollywood’ (one of Sydney’s top Bollywood Institutions). R2B’s unique Dancing syllabus is specially designed from Bollywood.
Performance: Outdoor Stage

Throughout Parramasala, the Outdoor Stage in Town Hall Square (Church Street) offers fun and free entertainment for the whole family.

Performance: Team 9Lives

Watch Team9Lives, a young group from South-West Sydney, perform Parkour, Freerunning, Trickling and Dance. Team 9Lives is devoted to physical expression and story-telling through filmmaking, performance and training.

Art Exhibition: Michal Glikson

A free exhibition by Michal Glikson will be presented in the foyer at Riverside Theatres from 3–11 November.

Participate: Yoga with Fiona Parker

Enjoy an outdoor yoga class with one of Sydney’s leading teachers Fiona Parker.

Performance: Tablatronics

Multi-talented electronica group Tablatronics is a media arts collaboration between Tokyo Love-In (sound artist and media arts producer) and an ensemble of South Asian artists fusing Indian classical music with contemporary electronic beats.

The buzzing centrepiece of the festival – with more than 30 stalls with South Asian inspired food, fashion, spices, fabrics, arts, crafts and refreshments – all carefully chosen to create great atmosphere – and shopping.

Masala Markets sees Town Hall Square in the heart of Church Street transformed during Parramasala. There will be a hot food dining area, licenced Festival Bar and good views of the big Outdoor Stage which is programmed with an extraordinary range of international and Australian musicians and performers.

8-11 Novemeber: 5pm – midnight

The Façade of Parramatta Town Hall will be illuminated each evening by Australia’s internationally famous masters of digital projection The Electric Canvas. These lively and atmospheric film sequences, playing several times each hour.
